Disappearing from your family and friends to honour writing is a big deal, I know. That's why I've created a Writers' Retreat, to fit with your busy life. It's the kind I needed back when I wrote novels by night and climbed the career ladder by day.
This is your retreat. Write all day (or not!). Read, snooze, think, reflect, pause.
A private bedroom with comfy duvet, a large single bed, and writing bureau. Shared bathroom (used by no more than two other people during the retreat) plus towels. All meals, snacks and hot drinks from dinner on Tuesday night to afternoon tea on Thursday including an aperitif before dinner and some wine each evening.
Tuesday: Arrive between 6pm and 7pm in time for sundowners + dinner ahead of a dreamy night's sleep.
Wednesday: Breakfast any time from 7.30-9am. We write in two-hour blocks from 9am with plenty of breaks and food to keep us going. If you don't feel like writing, then don't. Relax and reflect instead.
Thursday: Rinse and repeat. We bid each other adieu around 4.30/5pm and you return to your part of the Big Smoke ready for the weekend ahead.
How to get there
By road: M4, A40, North Circular. Free parking outside on weekends.
Tube: Ealing Broadway (Central and District lines) and Northfields (Piccadilly line).
Overland train: Ealing Broadway or West Ealing (less than 10 minutes from Paddington).
The house is a short walk away - 6 minutes from West Ealing station or 15 minutes from Ealing Broadway station. Alternatively catch a bus from Ealing Broadway (10 minutes) or take a cab (5 minutes' drive and around £7). A minicab from outside Northfields station will take less than 10 minutes and cost £7.
Wifi, reference books, writing magazines and Netflix
Wifi is available + lots of writing and screenwriting books, reference books and copies of Mslexia, Writing Magazine etc. Netflix also available if you should need it for 'research' purposes!
Breakfast, 7.30-9am: Cereal and toast or eggs, avocado and sautéed cherry tomatoes on rye + juice, tea or freshly brewed coffee.
Morning break, 11-11.30am: Freshly brewed tea and proper coffee with citrus polenta cake or apple slices with almond butter
Lunch, 1.15-2.15pm: Homemade carrot and cardamom soup, fresh granary bread from the local baker, humous, rye crackers.
Afternoon break, 4-4.30pm: Freshly brewed tea and proper coffee with warm madeleines or trail mix.
Dinner, 7pm: Lychee martini or a margarita + goats cheese on black pepper crackers and chill jam | Roast chicken with butterbeans, kale, new potatoes and creme fraiche or vegetable curry and basmati rice | Ribbons of pear with a honey, balsamic and tarragon dressing with cream or goats yoghurt | Wine and coffee included.
IMPORTANT: I use mostly organic, natural ingredients in my cooking. Many of my recipes are vegetarian, however, I am a home cook interested in eating well and not a trained chef.
